Cybersecurity Awareness: Staff Resources
Today’s globally connected society makes it easy for us to do many things online. Unfortunately, it can also make it easier for cybercriminals to access our personal information. That’s why we’re sharing some key resources to help you keep good cybersecurity practices top-of mind throughout the school year.
Simple Tips
-
Set up and use our two-factor authentication system, DUO. This system adds an additional layer of security and protection beyond our passwords and is a critical tool in the battle against cybersecurity threats.
-
Make your passwords long and strong. Use complex passwords that are made up of a combination of numbers, letters (lower and upper-case), and symbols. Change your passwords periodically and never-ever share your passwords.
-
Keep a clean machine. Powering down and restarting your device regularly, enables important software updates to occur and contributes to the overall performance of your device.
-
When in doubt throw it out. Online posts or links sent to your email are one of the most frequently used ways that cybercriminals attempt to get into your account. Make it a habit to always examine hyperlinks and sender's email addresses before clicking on them. If it looks suspicious (even if you think you know the sender) throw it out and report it to our security team at infosec@ideapublicschools.org.
-
When it comes to cybersecurity, sharing is not caring. Limit the amount of personal information you share online and use privacy settings to avoid sharing information widely.
