Charging Overview:
- When fully charged, student devices have around 10 hours of battery life under normal use. Students should be encouraged to arrive on campus with their devices fully charged. This will reduce the need to charge devices throughout the day.
Non-Negotiables:
- In keeping with Fire Code stipulations, no more than eight devices should be charged from a single outlet, unless utilizing the specialized charging equipment recommended by Technology Operations.
- "Daisy Chaining" - connecting surge protectors to one another, is a fire and safety hazard. This is strictly prohibited.
- All students must always be under adult supervision when handling device chargers of any type.
Approved/Recommended Products for Classroom Charging:
- KEY RESOURCE: Device - Charger Compatibility List
The following items may be purchased for classroom charging using the campus discretionary budget.
Campus Safety Expectations:
- Extension cords without surge protectors are dangerous and should not be used.
- Use only surge protectors that are UL listed.
Power strips are sometimes mistaken as surge protectors. Make sure the device you are plugging into has surge protection.
- Never use a charger or surge protector that is damaged in any way (frayed sockets, exposed wires, loose connection, etc.).
-
Keep chargers and surge protectors out of walkways. When required, use a cord safety cover to prevent tripping accidents.
Fact: Last year 43% of worker's comp claims were caused by slips, trips, and falls.
-
Disconnection of devices should always be done by pulling on the plug and never by tugging on the cord.
- Students must obtain permission from their teacher before connecting or disconnecting any device from the charger or charger from the outlet.
