Teams: Meeting Options (set students as attendees)
In Teams Meetings participants are either Presenters or Attendees. Ensuring that these options are correctly set up will help ensure students cannot mute others or take over the screen while a teacher is presenting.
Presenters have full control.
Presenters can:
- mute any participant
- present or share their screen
- start or stop meeting recording
- promote attendees to presenters during the meeting
- demote presenters to attendees during the meeting
- edit their device settings
- participate in meeting chat
- see other meeting participants
- share files and photos in meeting chat
- turn on/off their CC closed captioning settings
- view and add to meeting notes
Attendees and have limited control.
Attendees cannot:
- mute the speaker.
- present or share their screen
- start or stop meeting recording
Attendees can:
- edit their device settings
- participate in meeting chat
- share their video
- mute and unmute their microphone
- see other meeting participants
- share files and photos in meeting chat
- turn on/off their CC closed captioning settings
- view and add to meeting notes
HOW-TO Set Presenters & Attendees in Teams Calendar Meeting Options
1. After you schedule the meeting.
2. Re-open the meeting, then select Meeting Options. This window will open in your browser (Chrome).
3. Go to where it says Who can present?
4. Select Only me. (this will disable everyone invited from being able to present or mute others)
- To allow other teachers or moderators to present, select the Specific people option, then choose who you would like to set as presenters from the drop-down menu. OR if you select Only me follow the directions here to switch attendees to presenters during the meeting.
5. Set any other Meeting options you would like to change.
- Who can bypass the lobby? By default this is set to People in my organization. (We do not recommend letting everyone bypass the lobby since external participants can join without signing in. The lobby helps presenters monitor who is allowed in this way.)
- Who can bypass the lobby? Teachers can set to Only me so that students will not be allowed to join before a Teacher begins the meeting. (Microsoft is rolling out an automatic feature for this late August)
6. Save your new settings.
